Webmail slowness
From HostBaby Wiki
The most common ways to slow down the webmail are:
- You have a lot of email in your inbox
- You have many large attatments in your webmail (pics, pdfs, mp3s, etc)
- You are using "Thread View" in your folders
- You are using more than a few Message Filters
- You are using POP3 Fetch with a slow or unresponsive external server
- Enabling the Auto-Prune Folder options (this only affects the initial login speed)
- #1 combined with #2 and/or #3.. the more mail you have, the more time it takes the webmail to 'Thread' your message or run Message Filters on them
We noticed some people use the webmail Message Filters to help with their spam.. this is *not* the best way to deal with your junk email. If you haven't received a mail with "*****SPAM*****" in the Subject, then you probably don't have SpamAssassin enabled, which does a much, much better job of helping filter out the junk for you (and won't slow down your webmail at all). See this thread for some tips how to properly deal with the spam through SpamAssassin: http://hostbaby.org/viewtopic.php?t=1117 (and once you've got it working, i highly recommend deleting all unnecessary webmail message filters)
If you rely heavily on message filters, then we *highly* recommend going into your Options -> Message Filters and set What to Scan: Only unread messages.
If everything is still just too slow or annoying then you should definitely consider switching from the webmail to a real email program (such as Thunderbird, which is what we use in the office), as they will do a much better job of processing your mail for you. As long as you set up your account as type: IMAP, then you'll also have access to all the mail & mail folders currently stored in your webmail. There's some instructions for setting up an email program here: http://hostbaby.org/wiki/Email_account_Setup
