Settings Page
From HostBaby Wiki
The Settings page contains a great many things. We'll break it down into bite-sized chunks for you.
This tutorial will give you a general overview of the features available on the Settings page. We'll do separate tutorials to fully the less obvious features.
To get to the Settings page, click the Settings button at the top of your Wizard Administration Page:
You will see the following options:
- - Email Settings
Clicking here will take you to the place where you can add/edit email accounts at your domain!
- - Language
This section allows you to choose the default language for your website. Changing this will change the text of your administration area, as well as the links on your website. It will not, however, translate any text you enter on your own into another language.
- - Time Zone
This section allows you to set the time zone where you are. The wizard naturally defaults to the time zones our servers are in, which may not be yours!
- - Guestbook Moderation
Guestbook Moderation enables you to see and approve or delete guestbook entries before they make it to your live website. This avoids embarrassment, thwarts harassment and blocks SPAM. The full tutorial to use Guestbook Moderation is here.
- - Meta Description & Meta Keywords
Most everyone who is building a website has heard the words Keyword and Meta in reference to search engines. And while it's true that Meta Keywords have had huge impacts on search engines in the past, these days, this is becoming less and less true. While keywords are relevant, meta keywords are often ignored because they are too easy to fake. More often, search engines judge rank and relevance by the text you actually place on your pages -- most specifically, the very first page of your site. Peppering your text, and your title bar with the appropriate keywords is the best way to help the search engines catalog your site.
However, whether or not meta keywords are FULLY ignored is still slightly a mystery as not all search engines make their algorithms public, so we've left a spot for you to add these to your wizard site, just in case.
The Meta Description is still relevant to some degree, and will still be considered by some major search engines. Limit to 200 characters or less for consideration, and choose your words carefully. :)
- - Google Analytics Code
If you choose to use Google Analytics, we have provided a space for you to enter your unique code for tracking.
- - <HEAD> HTML CODE
For our advanced users, we've provided a space for code to be inserted into the head section of each HTML page. If you don't know what that means, you probably shouldn't use this part. ;)
