Can I use a domain I already have?

If you have already registered a domain with another registrar you can absolutely use it with us at HostBaby.

REALLY IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be sure that you've moved your site's contents and backed up your email off of your existing server BEFORE you change your Nameservers. If you don't, then your existing site will go down before you have a chance to get everything up and running on HostBaby, and that would be no fun at all. :)

SO - you can use your existing domain with us in one of two ways:

You can transfer the management of your domain to us so we can help you renew it every year and so you don't have to deal with two separate companies to keep your website and domain up online.

- or -

You can simply point your nameservers to our servers and continue to renew your domain each year with your existing domain registrar. Don't worry if you don't know what that means. We are available to assist you every step of the way. :)

Important Note: We do not automatically become your registrar when you sign up for hosting. If you want us to renew your domain name for you every year, you'll have to transfer the management of the domain to HostBaby (see the first section below for more info.) If you choose to just change your DNS, then you'll continue to renew your domain each year with your existing registrar. :)

I'd Like to Transfer My Domain so HostBaby Renews it Every Year

If you'd like to transfer the management of your domain, you will need to take two steps:

1) Login to your account at your Registrar and make sure Domain Protection is turned OFF. (This is a safety feature to make sure no one transfers your domain away without your permission, but since you're doing it intentionally, it's OK to turn it off. They make it sound scary so folks don't turn it off unnecessarily.)

2) Request your Transfer Authorization Code (sometimes called an EPP Key.)

Some registrars require that you call them to request that transfer key, some provide an interface to do it yourself. If you get stuck, all you need to do is email us and we'll help you through the process.

It's important to note that a domain's status cannot be changed while it's being transferred, and a domain's transfer can take up to 7 working days -- so you may want to change your DNS before you transfer the management of the domain. See the information on changing nameservers below for help with this. :)

Once your domain is unlocked and ready for transfer, simply email us and we'll initiate the transfer.
Domain transfer costs $10 and also renews your domain for a year (on top of your existing period of registration.)

I'm Happy with My Registrar and Just Want to Change the Nameservers

Changing the Nameservers of your domain can be a little confusing if you haven't done it before, so we are more than happy to help you with this!

If you're old hat at this, then all you'll need to know is that our nameservers are:

ns1.hostbaby.com
ns2.hostbaby.com

If you need help, just email us with your Registrar Username and Password and we'll take care of it for you. :)
